A Revelation...the neck mystery solved!
So, today I woke up and had to be in court so I was pressed for time. Now, before you jump down my throat, I know the rule never to shave when you are in a rush. I checked my time and I knew that I would have time for one WTG pass.
Anyway, after a hot shower and my usual beard prep, I got too it. I consciously overcompensated on my skin stretching because I knew that I would have to get as close as I could in one pass. I was stretching much more than usual. My revelation came when I got to my neck. I basically reached across my forehead and pulled the skin from under my jawline so that my neck skin was flat and almost on my face. Sounds crazy, I know.
I have never had a problem getting a close, comfortable shave on my face, however, my neck has been an ongoing problem. See here:

In the past, I could get a smooth shave on my neck, but only with three passes (2 WTG and 1 XTG) So, with my new extreme stretching technique, with one pass (WTG), my neck was almost BBS with no irritation!
It felt great and I feel like I have reached a milestone in my Straight Razor journey. In fact, this shave, with only one pass was probably my best shave so far.

Thanked: 23Yep, once is all you need when you do it right. I don't worry so much about the whole WTG, XTG, ATG thing though; I just do my one pass the way that seems most natural.

I have the same idea when it comes to my non dominant side. especially on the left cheek. If I try to go WTG I get a nick on the edge of my jaw. ATG and it's smooth.
I have only shaved 3 times so I'm sure this will change in multiple ways in the near future.

So you followed the instructions in the link you posted and it worked?

Well, not really. I tried following the instructions in the link, but I could still never get the right stretch and the right angle. Most of the instructions in the link suggested stretching the skin from the collarbone. This just did not work for me because of the direction of my hair growth.
Yesterday, I finally figured out a way to get comfortable pulling the skin up as the hair on my neck grows north to south like the hair on my face. I basically did a more exaggerated version of the "sideburn stretch" all the way down to my jaw line. Worked amazing.

OK, my hair grows south to north so tomorrow I'll try the method in the thread you posted.
