I would say shaving with a straight razor is more of a hobby if you are on this site.
I would disagree with you. I started straight shaving (theoretically) long before this site was in existence, and though it wasn't successful for me back then, I persisted off and on over those years. I was finally successful about two weeks before finding this site and had shaved everyday with a cut-throat until that time. This site has done what any father would have done, had I had one around in my early shaving years. It has taught me how to shave properly, and how to care for my blades. No more, no less.
I use an open razor not for the convenience, not for a hobby, but for the desire to slow the pace of (modern) life down just a little, to live in the past for a little while, to achieve a close shave that lasts, you can't beat a straight, something I've come to learn. Straight shaving is simply the way shaving is meant to be for me. Far from a hobby, sport or a past-time, it's a daily routine.
