    Default Help! East/West neck hair

My facial hair has a life of it's own. Only the sideburn area grows north->south; everything else meanders like a compass teased by a refrigerator magnet. My right cheek is NW -> SE, my left cheek is half NW->SE and then at the jawline becomes straight west->east. I sport a goatee (always have, long before picking up straight shaving in April) so it's neigh impossible to get an ATG pass on my neck, or rather, I don't know how to approach it. I can't seem to keep in contact with the skin at a low enough angle to avoid nicks, while avoiding the adam's apple and the depressions around it.

Any suggestions? I'm generally using a 6/8 wade and butcher or heljestrand but I also have a (somewhat unforgiving but wonderful in the tight areas) dubl duck that looks like it's 5/8 or possibly 4/8. A lot thinner.

Well part of the learning curve is mapping your hair growth and figuring out what mixture of angles and stretching to use on each spot. You might want to try the thinner blade, or perhaps look for a smaller blade lengthwise (bonus is that they're usually less expensive) to use while experimenting.

I pull my neck to the side of the Adam's Apple and also use a bit of downward pressure to flatten.

Have you tried doing an XTG on the neck by just shaving NS and then SN?

I haven't tried pulling so that the skin moves over to the side of the adam's apple, excellent suggestion. That's basically all I do for the neck area is a NS and then a SN pass for two XTG passes. It's okay, just not BBS.

Yea you just have to experiment with pulling this way and that and using different strokes and angles. Maybe a smaller blade might help since they are easier to maneuver. Sometimes though after you have tried everything some of us just seem to have certain areas that are very difficult to get BBS and you sometimes have to accept less in these areas.
