after you shave a little of the lather off, an inch or so, then dip your finger in some water and then take that finger and rub it on an alum block, then you will be able to stretch your skin without slippage, the finger with the alum on it will give you the traction you are looking for!!

+1 on nessmuck's advice. Try to stretch the skin on your face using an area that does not have lather on it. The alum will assist you in stretching your skin.

I find the slick face very hard to stretch. I solved the problem just by holding a piece of tissue, Kleenex, in my "stretching" hand. It gives me some grip on the skin and just by pressing and pulling I can get a good stretch on slick skin.
