    Default Mentored my son

Just finished helping my son who has been using a feather razor with his first non disposable straight shave. He did well all things considered, although I want to correct some of his technique as he only uses his right hand. I decided its what works for him so let him use what works for him. It really made me wish I had a mentor right there to coach me through those first couple of shaves. Gotta say way to go Cory/AdmissionRegret.

That's awesome you get to mentor your son.
I wish that my dad could of mentored me, but when I started shaving he only used a mach 3. I bet your son will be thanking you forever for helping teach him and having the bonding you are getting.

Congrats, and good call to let him do his own thing. If you use both hands, I'm sure he's seen it and might try it when he's comfortable. If not, he'll develop his own one-handed technique like many others and still get great shaves.

And now you have a reason to buy twice as many razors!

How cool is that?! I wish I had that type of experience with my dad, but I know that I'll give it to my son when he's ready. He's already talking about it

I had a great dad but as far as the shave mentoring was concerned, he was a confirmed electric razor shaver. He said, "Don't press too hard, you aren't going to get it all."

The irony of his son going on to be a straight razor shaver. I don't think he would have been able to handle it.

Straight razor shaver and loving it!

Are you going to strop for him until he gets the hang of shaving with the straight down?

That's cool, Dllandry! My 16 year old and I started straight shaving at about the same time, last Christmas, when I got him a Dovo 5/8 and a Tony Miller strop. That is the only way he shaves now. Oh, and I'm getting great shaves just using my left hand; still trying to figure the other hand out!

I believe the other hand is for skin stretching and visa versa ;-)..I'm also working on skin stretching with my left Jan due to injury at birth
