Thanked: 66Strop in the shop...
Here is my 1st post: http://straightrazorpalace.com/shavi...rop-paste.html
**My wife helped me confirm there were small specks of black rubbing off onto my fingers and blades..I thought it was the age of my blades**..I sent my strop back to Lynn to verify this...dunno if its normal
So..my only double strop is in the strop and I had to use my DE handle..so I used a yellow feather blade which I figured was the closest sharpness compared to my str8 razors..yea it burned good cause its a new blade..but I could swear I saw the entire constellation in the form of red spots...including Orionnes belt around my mouth on the left side...
My DE did get the tiny spots my straight doesnt get..including my "cactus" hairs around my adams apple that I think grow outward..I am still working on this..but other people with similar "bear hair" as mine say they use DE or whatever device or blade to get those pesky hairs..I think my face does miss it's strop

Thanked: 4942Latigo strops are tanned with oil and wax and this layer is what you get past when you are breaking in the strop. I normally treat the Latigo's with a couple light applications of neats foot oil and a lot of palm rubbing. As the strop breaks in, it leeches which are the small particles you are seeing. I just keep brushing them off until the strop is broken in and they have been harmless to the process. I noticed this with my first Tony Miller strop and every Latigo strop there after. This is also why the strop starts off a little slick and then end up with that nice draw after broken in.
Nuttin to worry about.
Have fun,
Lynn

Thanked: 4942Small amounts of the neatsfoot oil rubbed into your strop will help speed the break in process along with the palm rubbing. The leeching will continue until you get past the oil and waxes. Should not take long if you stay with it.
Have fun,
Lynn
