Gary,
Try something you already have. Apply hair conditioner to your beard while in the shower. Rinse it off last thing. Then, re-apply it before you apply your shaving cream. If you are not happy with that, then I would suggest giving PSO a try. Ignore that it is actually to be used in lieu of shaving cream.

Thanked: 8Second shave day..no cuts. This is great, I'm really hooked, mind you my investment in all of the goodies is quite subtantial.
This morning I shaved twice. Both the same way, not against the grain. The second pass I got the angles better, moving the razor before making contact and much better 30 deg angle feel. A very smooth result.
I tried using the same part of the blade that Lynn uses in his video, he uses the middle and heel most which I found perfect on the more rounded parts of my face. This part of the blade is also closer to the hand so I had more feel and control.
The toughest part is the upper lip but I got it eventually.
The secret to me was to have no trepidation, make a possitive stroke and keep the blade moving at all times when it's on the skin. I plan the stoke first to see how the blade will make contact and where all parts of it will be or end up before I go ahead. Eventually this should become second nature as I get to know my way around my face with a straight blade. I'm not rushing this at all.
Funny thing is, although you see your face everyday you only get to know the angles etc.. when you try using a straigh razor.

Gary,
Glad to hear that your second shave was successful as well.
Is everything going way easier than expected? I know it did
for me. For some reason this was way easy. But it seems that
most everyone when giving a first shave report is delighted
with the results. Those giving a negative report all seem to
have one thing in common - a razor that is not shave ready.
If more men knew just how easy and enjoyable shaving with
a straight razor Gillette just may have to start manufacturing
straight razors or risk going out of business.
I wish you continued success in your new found addiction.

That's the way to do it, Garry. Keep focused and keep trying to improve and it likely will become second nature. Congrats!
