ATG first attempt
Well I decided today to give ATG a try. Well the results were great as smooth as I have ever gotten. There was a bit more razor irritation then normal so I may hold off a few days before I try that again. I found it hard to get the angles right and my hands did not want to cooperate with me at time as it was a new way of doing it.
For those that are good at ATG what do you find works best for you. I hope to get this down so the shave is as comfortable as it is prior to doing ATG as this was so smooth.

For me, the atg is best when I have the following conditions
1. Sharp razor (as sharp as you can get)
2. Nice lather (as a luxury of course)
3. A lower angle of attack... I let my razor get almost flat on my skin
4. Very light pressure (don't add pressure to get a closer shave)
As always, YMMV... but this works best for me.

ATG first attempt
Hello, Bnick:
Dave covers this against-the-grain topic well. I'll go along with what he says.

What I find works great for me is to start with the blade near flat and lift ever so slightly into the stroke. You really don't need much. When you do this, you will find that you automatically start using less pressure with the pass.

I find a really good skin stretch is also required to make the blade glide along. But that is just me.
