Anybody use more than one razor per shave?
Hello all,
In my quest to learn all that I can about str8 shaving so as to improve myself, I have stumbled across a few videos that show fellas using two razors per shave.
Is this a common thing? I will occasionally strop after two passes if I am having a trying shave day, but using two never occurred to me.
Any thoughts?

Hi,
Sure you can shave any way you feel works best for you. For me I use one razor per shave day. Sometimes I strop or touch the barber hone once or twice depending on my razors condition. I have 4 razors I rotate shave to shave.
If I'm testing a razor I'm honing I my fall back to a known good razor to finish a shave that the current razor on the hone is not up to.

For the mustache and chin area sometimes I use a small straight. The Dovo Jubilaum or the Boker Baby are nice, 2/3 or smaller size blades that I find do a good job in those parts of my face. I don't use them all the time, but periodically. Partly, it's also just because I like small straights, don't totally know why! But the Dovo Jubilaum, the Boker Baby, the Dubl Duck Styledge and Dwarf, are just fun little razors IMO.

I just wish I had two to use. Being new at this I only have one razor. Maybe, this is a good excuse to talk the wife into another razor. "Honey, this guy on SRP said I need two razors to shave with."

Oh jeez.......
One of the videos that show this rather prominently is by Xman on youtube. I am sure he also posted it on here, but by poor computer navigating skills have yielded no results.
Here is the link for the video on the tube:
YouTube - One Handed Straight Razor Shave, pt. 1.
He goes from a half-hollow to a wedge. Great video too.

Might have somethign to do with the thickness of your beard combined with the sharpness of the razor...I only use one at a time. , but I am not a blue beard kinda guy either...I can grow a goatee and stache in about a week, but it takes a couple weeks to grow a full beard..Stiffer beards require different treatment.
And the sharpness counts too. A pure wedge is a more difficult shave in my book. Ican never get the angle correct. So, I would probably finish with a hollow to finiese the hacking I did on my face.

I do use several razors sometimes, but only when I've honed a bunch and I'm testing them to see how they shave.
If its just a usual daily shave then I only use one. But do whatever works for you..!

Of course you need at least 2 or more razors. Here's why...what are you suppose to shave with if by chance you drop your razor, bang it in the sink damaging the edge, or just need to have it sent out to be honed. That rationale worked for me...hehehe... my evil plans for Rad are working.
As for the OP, I usually use 1 razor per shave, but have on occasion used 2 or 3 razors to evaluate each blades' edge.
