Thanked: 45Wonky handed
Gents,
On my 7th straight razor shave so here's a dumb question. I know that there are countless threads around shaving with both hands so I'm giving it a shot as I would like to learn the best method.
So here's the dumb question....as an example when I shave my right cheek I hold the razor with my right hand to hold the razor and the left loops over my head and pulls the skin up. Obviously it's reversed for my left hand.
Just watching a copule of videos I've seen several that when they shave the right cheek they hold the razor with the left hand and pushe the skin up with their right hand.
Again, I'm just figuring this out so please post back what you do and please no posts of "just do what's natural" as nothing right now feels natural.
Thanks,

Where does your right give you the best shave? Id suggest trying left hand opposite of that

Thanked: 45That's a good question but I haven't tried holding the razor in my right and shaving my left cheek. That is why I posted this up to see what everyone else is doing.
I have found from sports that there generally is a way that makes the most of body mechanics and is consider "good form" and if you learn it early by coaching (or reading forums) then as muscle memory sets in you see better results....a good example is if you have ever watched someone do a lay up going off the wrong foot it generally doesn't yield as a good a result.

For me it's left hand shaving left side, right hand shaving right side. On the down pass. I use the opposite hand to stretch, in the over the head move like you said. Now for across the grain on the cheek (ear to mouth) I use the opposite hand (right hand left cheek, left hand right cheek) It took a bit for me to get all this but I just experimented and found out what worked for me. There is no absolute right way. I just took several suggestions and did a lot of reading. In the end it came down to what I was comfortable with.
I am lucky I am ambidextrous. So I kinda had a leg up when it came to using both hands. But it was still a challenge to learn where my hands needed to be.

The only time I cross over is when I do ATG on my neck. I could see it for XTG cheek like sbrouwers said, but I started using both hands right off the back and have never had much of a problem finding the best angle.
