Thanked: 45ATG tips
To answer all of the prerequisite questions...yes I"m using a shave ready razor and yes my lather's good.....but my ATG shaving sux at best.
I stretch the skin as tight as I can and can't seem to get the razor moving ATG....this is after a 2x WTG and 1 XTG passes. The angle is either too high to move or so low it glides over the cream without cutting anything.
Is it possible that my razor is not sharp enough?

I would try an angle slightly higher than the "glide" range (maybe 1/2 to 1 spine width on a 6/8) with absolutely ZERO pressure, you just super-lightly buff the razor over the surface....

To answer your questions Yes it is possible your blade is not sharp enough?
There is couples but's.
1. Doesn't matter how sharp your blade will be when you start to use ATG YOUR face will get irritated. Face needs time to get used to it.
2. angle is very important.
3. what type facial hair you have.
Some people has course one(myself) . A lot people will shave with exact blade i shave 95% of them will say this blade is shave ready but i will say it is not shave ready.
In Reality you should never use ATG shave to get close shave.
you should learn to get BBS shave just making wtg and xtg shave.
It is possible to get that shave. takes time and properly honed blade. you or me or anyone else can get that shave.
hope this helps.

Having a well-honed razor is key. I was having these same issues. I've tried to hone my own blades and even with some practice, it just isn't the same as having it done professionally. Also, the stropping before use is very important. It can make the difference in the final finishing of the edge. Frankly, I still have this issue sometimes but that's my experience

Tis Aight
Will DO Sir.....
I have also been having issues with my ATG shaves. The blade seems to skip or pull the hair no matter what I do.
Only smooth shave I have gotten with ATG is with a disposable used at a 90 degree angle from the face, this does help with irritation believe it or not.
I have been getting some smooth shaves with only doing WTG and XTG, but like most I am always looking to get the skin smooth to the touch no matter what direction you touch it at. I will admit I have not been at this very long but will never give up the search. Besides I like using my Straight for every shave too much.
Now if I can only get that Damn lather
Turns from looking dry to bubbly really fast, thinking I have too many chemicals in my water

Along with the other suggestions, perhaps you're stretching your skin too much. Try lightening off on it a little. It may work.
