Well now, this was an unexpected side benefit...
This whole "learning to shave with a straight razor" thing has...
...made shaving with DE Feathers a LOT less bloody!

Hi,
Quite a few members here have reported that shaving with a straight has improved their safety razors shaves no end.
It was certainly the case for me !
I think it is the stretching of the skin, and the very light touch that is needed to shave with a straight that are the biggest contibuters to this
Have fun !
Best regards
Russ

Thanked: 983Actually as a Cut-Throat razor shaver learning to use a DE, I find it no problem to use stretching technique with the CT, but I'm damned if I can think to do it while using the DE. Too many years on the Mach3 probably. Maybe I slip back into bad form with the DE, but the shaves are second only to the CT!

Unexpected . . .
Gentlemen:
I keep two double edge razors (with Feather or 8 O'Clock yellow pack blades) in regular rotation with my straights. One tool does help the other, yes, and the change in razor types adds even more enjoyment to my shave experience. Also, I keep a little travel double edge in my wet pack as a backup to the two straights I usually take with me.
Regards,
Obie

Thanked: 1195Absolutely, SR shaving skills are definitely transferrable to different forms of shaving. I started DE shaving after using a straight, and have yet to cut myself with a DE any more than getting a couple weepers every now and then. I'm sure it would not have turned out so well if it had been the other way around.

Possibly, weepers from DE shaving are due to the coating they put on the razor blades?
An apple a day keeps the doctor away....if you throw it hard enough.

I am ambidextrous with a straight, but can't seem to get it with a DE.
Go figure
But it is still a DFS - either way I go.
