    Default Cuts

Ok so I have been shaving with a str8 for about 3 months now and my favorite razor is the one that has done the most damage to me as of late. It is a Friodur spike point. I have given myself 2 decent cuts now with it. I have read use neosporin for cuts is there any other advice to keep the scaring down on a cut, other then don't cut yourself.

I've heard vitamin E can be helpful applied to the cut area but I've not tried it myself as I don't cut myself. (knocking on wood) Always be aware of where the point is on any razor but particularly a spike point. Read my sig below, the old barber's advice has worked for me so far.

It only happens on my left side which is my non dominant hand. I think I was trying to rush the 2 times I did it so no more rushing for me.

I've shaved with both hands but decided I was most comfortable with dominant hand shaving and stick with that. Rushing and straight razors don't mix well for sure. A DE can be handy on days like that , or some alternative.

    Default Vitamin E

+1 on the vitamin E cream. That's what I was given,
by the surgeon, to apply to a surgical incision on my
    hand, to reduce scarring.

I can hardly even see the scar now.

    And yeah....Don't cut yourself anymore!

Vitamin E is largely used to reduce the scar tissue after a wound has healed, at least from everything I've known and read.

Topical vitamin E is widely used for the prevention of hypertrophic scarring though there is little evidence for its use. Most likely it fails into the chicken soup category of medicine- it can’t hurt.

There is no evidence that vitamin E speeds or promotes wound healing or prevents infection.

Any petrolatum based product will offer mild pain relief to minor cuts and abrasions because it covers exposed nerve endings. But again there is little to suggest is improves healing time.

Many topical antiseptics (alcohol, peroxide, betadine &c) may actually slow healing time because they kill your own cells in addition to bacteria.

The good news is that most shaving related cuts are very shallow, bleed freely but briefly, and occur under fairly clean circumstances. Most will heal on the first intention if left dry and free of irritation.

    I remain &c

After many years of basically no major cuts, I shaved with a Japanese Kamisori for the third time and cut myself sort of badly. It is healing very nicely though thanks to some neosporin applied immediadely after the cut.
