My wife works in a doll shop, and the CBS 11 reporter did a piece on their shop. (It is probably the only Dallas area doll shop that repairs dolls.) She told the reporter he should contact me about straight razor shaving. Voila! I am on TV, famous, signing autographs, running women away from my door. :)
Larry Andreassen
good times
That was pretty great. It was good to put a face to whippeddog.com, even if it was covered it lather. :rofl2:
That was pretty cool, Congrats. The newscasters could have done without the cutting themselves comments thought.
The announcers were slick and glib. But, I was cooler. I shave with straight razors!
(Well, actually, I shave with just one straight razor. My trusted 6/8 square tip W.S. Brown Special, whatever that is!)
Woot! Great piece of work there! :) Glad you're getting the work out there...
Congrats on a nice piece, Larry. It always amazes me when I see someone else str8 shaving on a video. They always look like they are barely scraping a thin lather on their beard. When I lather up, I look like Santa Claus by comparison.
I am turning into a minimalist. I have a rotation of one straight razor, using a 6/8 W.S. Brown every time. I have a rotation of one shave soap, Mitchell's Wool Fat.
Similarly, I used to whip up lather like crazy, trying to get it to look like regular shaving cream. Any more, if it is wet and soapy and sticks, good enough!
That was great Larry! Too bad they had to make those lame comments about being scared to cut themselves at the end. That is the kind of thing they should have said while they were filming you so you could address those concerns.
Oh well. Good for you just the same. BTW, I'm hooked on MWF. You send me a sample back when I first started, and I went and bought 3 pucks of the stuff. Good god this stuff lasts forever!
Awesome. I hope sales went up too. I'm a minimalist too. Just seems more traditional.
I'm glad you were so confident shaving during the filming. I see so many people making those weird, tentative, prepatory moves before making a shaving stroke in the beginning.
I need to try that soap/cream you like.
Sweet Larry and well deserved!! You´ve helped so many to get going and get right up on the SAD wagon ... HEY, it´s your fault :rofl2:
Bravo Larry
Way to go Larry! You made it look like the most normal thing in the world!
Just spreading the word!!! that was great and hope sales go throught the roof!!
Several have called me who saw the TV spot. One guy called, not interested in straight razor shaving, but for advice what to do with #110 straight razors he purchased. He said it was some guy's collection that had been wired in display cases on a wall. I offered to meet him and help him photograph and catalog the razors, giving him some idea of their worth.
Today, I'm driving 50 miles South and the guy is driving North the same distance to meet each other.
Should be fun!
That sounds like a good way to spend a Sunday afternoon. But just one small question...how many new razors do you think you'll add to your collection being that you will be the first to check out his inventory? He might have some junk razors made in Sheffield, England or Soligen, Germany that you may want to take of his hands.:w
My motives are completely altruistic, Mr ReardenSteel. I have no plans to skim off a nice razor or two for myself. And, that is the truth. Just like it is true that my nose is growing longer by the moment! :)
But, leaving truth to join real truth, he described some Case razors. I would like a nice one for my brother-in-law, who is a collector of everything Case. There will probably be another razor or two I might buy from him.
I should be able to help him make money on the collection, and at the same time get myself a razor or two at a price fair to both of us.
Great job on your part Larry :)
The Anchors are idiots :( but it seems to be the exact reaction from every single newscast I have seen that anyone has been able to do...
Who knows, maybe the guy might become interested in straight shaving after meeting with you and decide to look into our little hobby. It sounds like he already has a great starter set. He might just need a few other items to get started. Are you planning on posting any photos of the meet for those of us interested in razor collections. I know I would be curious to hear what he has in the collection considering the guy he purchased them from had them on display.
The situation is sticky for me. I will in all regards help him get fair money. But, I would like a razor or two also. And, I would like to help some of you straight razor guys get in on some good deals too. And, I think I can arrange it sfairly for all. But, I have to do it in a way that he knows beyond doubt that I have his best interests in mind.
I feel like I am somewhat representing several parties at the same time! But, no matter what happens, he is my top "client."
Right on, Larry! Congrats :tu
I think it's great that you're willing to help this guy out. The gentleman may decide not to sell his collection after meeting with you is what I meant. The old saying..."you don't know what you have until its gone." I don't mean to sound like a vulture waiting on the the internet tree branch to get a great deal, in fact, I am in no way even able to add to my collection of razors for a while as I have just dropped a chunk of change on a new/used car yesterday. Regarding photos of the gentleman's collection, I just want to live vicariously through others' razor collections pictures that I might one day have a collection as big and nice. That's all.
I mentioned meeting some guy today who just purchased a collection of #110 straight razors. Well, I just got back home. I had a great time, and am very glad I went.
Some of the razors were a little more rusted than I anticipated from his description over the phone. But, there were some very nice razors among them. Most intriguing to me were some of his big "meat cleavers", W&Bs, etc. Several of his razors had a construction that I had never seen before. Especially, one that was an old Wostenholm frameback if I remember correctly.
I took pictures of about 1/3 of his razors, and will be posting them all later today. I will post the link here if anyone is interested in perusing the razors. At the moment, until he does more research, he is not selling these razors. In the future, he might sell them on Ebay, sell them to one of you guys, or just keep them.
great clip on the news. congrats on the publicity.
Thanks for helping spread the information and making it look easy; regardless of the reporters comments, you did a great demo and spoke well.
Great work, Larry! Please do post the link to the pics you took!
