With SR shaving it is absolutely necessary to shave with a confident stroke, but not overconfident. There is a fine line, no doubt, especially when mistakes can be made by newbs and the experienced alike.

This is an important piece of advice. I'm to the point where I feel confident in my ability to shave with a straight, but I let myself get ****y. I was doing an XTG pass on my right cheek, rushed into setting the blade on my face, made the slightest vertical movement with the razor, and the next thing I know I'm dealing with searing pain, blood running down my face, and a nice cut. If you cut yourself, just take a deep breath or two, think about why it happened, and learn from it. It'll be ok, and you'll be a more skilled razor wielder for it (which will lead to more confidence).
