Shaving Mirror
I've always wanted one of these. Almost got one on a stand many times, but bathroom doesn't have the space. I liked the idea of the ones on the arm, but they're pricey. Furthermore, I didn't really feel the need for one. In the hotel there's one on an arm mounted to the wall. Did a nice slow and relaxing shave with it. (That 3x side is tricky). Well, I will be buying one now. That thing makes it really nice to shave with! I actually got a closer shave. I could spend more focus on my shave and see what to do better.

I got this mirror from amazon:
Amazon.com: Gatco 1439SN Accordian Arm Wall Mount Mirror, Satin Nickel: Home Improvement
It's a bit pricey but should last the rest of my life and then some. I personally love this mirror, it is solidly constructed, has great glass and is rock solid when extended. I lather with the bathroom mirror and shave with the Gatco.

Timely topic. I'm looking at getting one of the screw to the wall ones on the scissor arms. I've used one a few times in hotels whilst travelling and they are pretty good. I don't think that I'd want to be paying $140+ dollars for one though. Ikea sell one for around $20 that I'll probably end up getting.

Probably does not have to be said but take the time to make sure the mirror is at the height you need it before you start drilling. Extend it to the desired length and location to make sure the mirror "lands" properly then mark the holes and start drilling.

What magnification do you guys suggest for shaving? 1x, 3x, 7x? Seems like being close to the mirror would be a good start but some magnification could be good also...
Thank you,

Dang the Ikea one is $5 bucks! (And it has a cool Battlestar Galactica name!)
How do you keep it from steaming up?
I think I am heading to IKEA for Halloween!Last edited by Shoki; 10-31-2010 at 05:31 AM. Reason: Price Check

I use 1x. Don't forget the mirror is very close to your face since the sink counter is not in the way. 3x to check out any touch up areas. BTW, the mirror can get in the way of the scales if your too close to the mirror. Just a warning!

Where from? I've actually been trying to source a polished steel mirror for out on the 'selection'. Anyone know where to find one of those? I'll be a happy man. Seems all I can find is those plastic/acrylic mirrors.
I like that glass mirror posted by the OP as well as johnmrson's, but I want something unbreakable for a back-country shack in the middle of nowhere.
