New shaver around my Goatee
I started out as suggested with shaving the sideburns and cheeks but I can see a question approching so I thought I would ask it before I did myself injury or spoiled the pleasent experience I have has so far. I have a close trimmed Goatee that ends at the jaw line so I am wondering when I get to shaving that area with the straight do I start at the Goatee edge and go down or start below the edge, leave a bit and then trim up to the edge with an "up" stroke? I know with my safety I just leave a bit all the way around and then shave toward the edge to get the final trim. Knowing of course that having the beard and the Gotee prepped is of significant importance.
Thanks

I always start with the razor at the edge of the facial hair, then a stroke away. I do use a slightly higher angle when doing edge work, similar to how I start my WTG stroke right under my nose.
Glen (gssixgun) always says that he started when a barber told him something along the lines of 'If you want straight lines, use a straight razor'.

I guess I did not consider the thin-ness of the straight blade vs any other razor type and its ability to get right in along the edge you want to trim against. Makes sense and lets you keep going WTG.
