Thanked: 10Two Razors One Shave
Does anyone use two different razors for the same shave?
I am still trying to find my best overall razor, so today I used a 1/4 Ground 6/8 for the first pass straight (very smooth, reduces whiskers, but not BBS, no nicks) and then followed up with a full hollow 6/8 (very close shave, more prone to nicks/weepers/irritation).
The end result was a great overall shave in feel and finish.
Maybe it is just a lack of technique with each individual razor, but I am very happy with the result.
BTW, Happy THanksgiving...

I shave with 2 razors frequently. Sometimes to compare a newly honed blade to a Lynn-standard. Other times I have a round-point coming up in rotation, but still need a square point to clean around the stache...

This comes up every now and then. Some folks use more than one razor per shave to get certain areas better and some for rotation and some because one razor doesn't seem to last through a shave. Most just use one razor for the entire shave and your razor should last an entire shave and way more than that so if it's the other reasons it's a personal preference thing but if it's because the razor won't last you probably need to spend more time honing.

Yeah, i use one razor for the most part. Some times i use a second one if I need a perfect trim around the gotee.

Thanked: 84I use two razors all the time. The reason is mostly because I won't keep a strop in the bathroom. The second razor is perfect, ready to go, for the second pass.
I guess the other reason is because I can. I have more razors than a sane man should have, and like to make combinations- Swedish steels, ivory pairs, wood scales, 1800's day, wedge day... you get the idea. Any excuse to play with my razors.

Thanked: 190I don't use two to shave, but understand why its tempting. A small razor may just be easier to shave certain area. I just challenged myself to get along with one straight razor for the shave and limit myself to no more than 4 straight razors overall. I do keep the razors sharp so they all can give a BBS shave all by themselves.
Its all good and enjoyable.

Thanked: 10Tried it again today and still had a very nice shave. I think it may be that my technique is not up to snuff with just one razor, and when I use two different feeling razors, they just do an overall great job balancing each other out.
I am thinking that I am more open with the 1/4 hollow and more closed with the full hollow.
BTW, I am using the same size for both shaves, 6/8. I can see how one would use a smaller razor for the stache, etc.
