    Default Flap of skin

Ok say you "have a friend" who was trying a new XTG stroke today and didn't stretch properely and pulled up a nice flap of skin. Bleeding profusely what is the best way to handle this flap? Do you push it down and apply stypic pencil or do you cut if off?

This is all hypothetical of course.

    woops been in similar situation
push it down and see if it sticks(i tryed cold water and didnt need stryptic)
CA glue along the edge will work if it dont want to stay closed(yes it may burn a bit)

The razor is so sharp that it will usually not do werry much damage beyond the cut itself allowing the flap of skin to reattach without much problems

    Smile How Big

What size is the flap, for a small one like under 5mm i have applied the scyptic pencil (prepare for a sting) for larger i would push it down and then cover it with a small plaster or use a scyptic then cover it with a peice of paper. if its larger than 2 cm then i'd considder stitches, the stick on ones should be ok, if you dont have one, get a normal plaster and then cut it into strips lenghtways, shorten the sticky bits so they arnt too long then simply appl them to the cut area being sure to check that it isnt stretched when you do it.

If you dont use a scyptic be sure to clean it with another disinfectant, or use some alchole (vodka is best).

    Hope this helps

Superglue. Seriously, that stuff is the bomb for glueing cuts shut, it works great!

If you're feeling really brave you can hold the flap open, hit it with the styptic until the bleeding stops and then glue it shut. It'll sting like billio, but it does work! I've done it before when I slashed myself with the dreadnought point on my TI.

And... PICS OR IT DIDNT HAPPEN!!!!

Seriously though, hope you heal up quick!

I just saw an ad for some stuff on TV last night specifically to stop bleeding marketed to folks on blood thinners who cut themselves. I don't remember the name but it's superglue of course just it's packaged as a medical product and more convenient to use. I'm sure it will show up in drug stores soon.

Much sound advice here. From someone who went the other direction (I cut it off. Yes, yes, stupid I know, but I found the whole flap thing thoroughly annoying) I can assure you cutting it off _will_ leave a scar. Mine was not huge, and the scar is not so visible, but it is easy to feel where it was due to a thin long valley in the middle of my jaw line. I had not heard of the superglue solution, I'll go that route should I ever find myself in the same spot, and in hindsight I would not recommend the moment as an ample opportunity to practice some home surgery

Hope it heals soon (hypothetically of course)

Super Glue as mentioned. Hold the flap in its place and LIGHTLY apply a SMALL drop or two to the seam just as you would a stitch. Allow it to dry. DO NOT PAT. Takes no more than 30 seconds.

The flap is called an avulsion. Unless it's very small, do not remove it. Hold it in place via whatever means suits you best.

There is a tradition here though of taking pics before rendering any medical care to the injury. This also applies if you have an injury in the workshop.
