Thread: Upcoming surgery

Good luck with you surgery and a speedy recovery. Personally I might go with a DE for my recovery. But if you are up to shaving your whole face with your left hand by all means take your time and dont force anything. As far as stropping goes I believe a bench strop is do able just take your time go slow and deliberate when you flop the blade. Best wishes

I took a spill off of a bicycle 7 years ago and broke my collarbone and separated my A-C joint. TBH I don't remember what I shaved with, probably a Gillette Good News disposable and probably not often the first week or two. I know I slept in a chair for three months.

Best of luck with the surgery and I hope they fix it and you heal up quickly.

Please do not take this letter as anything other than one man who has been put back togher 16 times to another,strop your razors before you go in ,remember nothing hurts as much as you think it will,and use the blade as best you can,you might suprise yourself and have no problem at all,if it hurts too much use a DE for a little while.
If you check my posts youll find out that I know what your talking about,I just had surgury on my neck and the thought of having the doctor or nurse shave a weeks worth of fur at my checkup got me to my straight right away,and slowly I cleared away the rubble so he could see,I posted a picture of the freasly shaved scar to thank the person who put such a great edge on the blade and we have a few surgens here as he recognised,what I had done and knew the name of the procedure,so youll have lots of good wishes coming from here. One last thing,stropping your blade might be the best therapy for you,just do it SLOWLY..and see.Good Luck and speedy recovery

Here's some positive vibes to get you threw it quickly and with little down time

Meeting with the surgeon's assistant tomorrow for pre-op physical and eval, I'll definitely be bringing up the interscalene block for the gas passer! You guys are awesome and I'm glad to see such wonderful well wishes and good useful advice. Not looking forward to this operation given all the extreme pain involved according to everyone I've talked to. The operation is on Wednesday the 15th, I'll let you know how it went after the drugs wear off. I'll be typing a little slower though!

Perhaps you could shave with a shavette the first couple of weeks? Then there would be no need to strop. Shaving is manageable with 1 arm. I shaved for years using only my right.

Lots of good advice here so I'll just wish you good luck with the surgery and whatever method of shaving to choose to go with.

Had my surgery yesterday and all went well. The interscalene block was wonderful until it wore out at 2AM this morning! Even though I had already taken oxycontin for pain, it didn't seem to make a dent in the pain. Had to add the back up of percocet to slightly dull the pain. Celebrex is the third pain weapon. Using lots of ice packs to reduce swelling. Hope none of you guys have to go through this, but those that have know all about the pain.

As to what to use for shaving, I may try one of my str8s just to see how it goes. Think I'll wait a few days though. Thanks again for all the well wishes guys!
