    Talking Vision DE...

My new Mekur Vision DE arrived today. It is truly a masterpiece. As usual Classic Shaving was very prompt in it's delivery. I bought it to replace all of those inferior 2, 3, and 4 blade products that the current vendors sell. It is quite hefty and I can't wait until the AM to try it out. I also bought it to take "on the road" when I fly, as I know I'll forget something I need for my straights (i.e. Strop, etc.) when I travel. Anybody here have tips, or suggestions on the Visions' use? Just how bad will I bleed, etc.?

    Thanks,

    Jim

    Jim,

Though I've never used the Vision I have used a
Merkur Classic which is not adjustable.

All i can really say is to use NO PRESSURE when
shaving with a DE. Let the weight of the razor
do the work. As with a straight, take your time
and enjoy the experience. You will do fine.

    Hope this helps a little.

I have a vision and its a gret DE. I can get a shave with it thats the closest thing to a straight that I've ever used. You have to experiment with the settings to get the best shave. Just don't use any pressure. Thats a heavyweight and its own heft gives the perfect pressure without you adding any.

The Vision is a monster! The weight of the razor will apply all of the pressure that you need! For the first shave, close it up as much as possible. Make a pass and see how it goes. If needed, open up one stop and make your second pass. The main thing is to not be over confident. The Vision, like the Slant, can leave you bleeding like a straight! Using a Vision is like using a straight in one respect...you have a learning curve to climb. The biggest complaint that I have heard about the Vision is that, due to it's size, shaving under the nose may be a challenge. If that's the case, grow a moustache!

    Best of luck!

So far I've shaved twice with my new Merkur (non-adjustable) and I've yet to cut myself. *Knocks on wood*

I had never used a DE before, either. I've found it to be quite easy to work with - and it gives a great shave!

Thumbs up The Verdict is in...

Well, I shaved with the Vision yesterday AM...It was a great shave, very close and without drawing any blood. After using it I cannot or the life of me understand why anyone would use a 2,3,4 or more blade razor. Must be the mass marketing and media exposure. I'll never buy another multiblade razor. There is just NO comparison! I dare to say it shaves as close as one of straights. It's definitely going to be used on those late mornings.

Now that you've gotten that first Vision shave under your belt, here's a thread you might want to read over at Badger and Blade.

It shaves great out of the box. It's truly adjustable beyond belief. I don't know why someone would want to mess with readjusting the adjustments. I know that probably sounds strange, but if you look, you'll understand.

    Jim,

I have several Merkur razors, and the Vision is not even on my list to buy. I have an adjustable Progress, and ususally don't even mess with it.
