    Default First straightrazor shave

Hi guys i did my first straightrazor shave today. I must edmit i was a bit nervous and shaky on the hand. But i still went all right, i just shaved my right cheek with the straightrazor and then the rest with a safteyrazor. Both cheeks goot the same smotheness, that fell kind of good considering its the first shave. How was your first shaves?

My first shave was a bloodbath, so was the second. The third was better and things have slightly improved from there. Now, at shave #20, I seem to have trouble with trying to get the shave too close and that has led to problems. I'm trying to back off now and just get a decent shave and save my face, such as it is.

Well now you've gone and done it. I was having a great day and you had to dredge up a horrible nightmare I thought I had forgotten about with good reason.

I started well before this site existed so I was on my own for everything. It was not a pretty picture, massive razor burn, crappy shave. At least no cuts until the 5th or so shave and that was a bad one.

As I recall by the third week or so things started to improve rapidly.

I'm about three weeks in, but have only shaved with a straight four times. I keep giving myself such wicked burn below the chin line that I've had to promise my wife not to attempt that part of my neck again until I'm shaving my whole face above the chin line. I'm just too eager to run. Have tonremember to crawl, then walk, then run.

My first SR shave was surprisingly servicable. I attempted my whole face, even some XTG and was able to do just about everything except my chin. It wasn't a close shave by any means, but it was blood and irritation free. Which all sounds good, except it probably took 45 minutes....

As someone who has been forced to shave with a well (read: over) used disposable safety razor during my time in the service, my first shave with a straight razor was delightful. I treated it with respect, and with a little apprehension - much like you would a beaten-bic, but knowing full and well its capabilities.

Ultimately, I ended up receiving just a small cut...of all places, on my right cheek. I tuck my tongue down into my lower lip to give myself some leeway, and though I did sacrifice an 'against the grain' pass, it was far smoother than any with the grain passes of any disposable I've ever had (or 'enjoyed') the pleasure comes with the fact that this, in itself is a skill. Like driving a 5 speed, I found myself bucking a little with the razor, but ultimately...it smoothed out.

Delightful. Simply delightful. Best christmas present to date.
