Default Angle: full hollow v. wedge

I've heard that a wedge razor should be used almost flat against the face or at a more shallow angle since the shaving angle is built into the blade. I've always used a 30° angle with my full hollow razors so this sounds odd to me.

Yeah, some guys will say that's true. Some say that you should shave with a full hollow pretty much flat to the face, too. In the end the "30 degree rule" is more of a guidline or starting point; the ideal shaving angle for any razor can be + or - 30 degrees, you just have to find that sweet spot.

As for myself, with wedges I have never found flatter to be better. Just my humble opinion with my razors, that's all.

Its a general rule not to be taken literally, like Ryan said, you have to find that sweet spot.

Every Razor is different and so is every face. Go with what works best for you.

I think it kind of depends on your razor as well. I don't have a large selection of razors, but I do own a few wedges. I find that for the same level of comfort I have to use a different angle for my thicker wedges as opposed to my thinner ones. I have never thought this is because the shaving angle is 'built in', but it could be true.
I would say play around with different angles as you are shaving, and find what works best for the you + whatever razor combination. there is no golden 'this is the right way to do it' rule.

    salazch,

If I have made my lather a bit on the thick side, I find I get get a lot of suction stiction with a wedge using low blade angles !

Recently I have been using lower angles (almost, but not quite flat on face) with my full-hollows and like the shave this gives.

Use whatever angle for each razor that gives you a comfy shave

    Have fun !

    Best regards

    Russ
