    Question bit o burn

so i'm currently stationed at Eglin AFB Florida. It was 75 degrees and sunny today. The tee time was around noon and I got a bit pink on my face.... You think that will affect my shave tomorrow???

It won't help. If your skin is already sensitized, you should make sure you prep well and take it easy on multiple passes. A cold water shave might be a good idea. You could always mix some sunscreen in with your soap.

If you're able to do so without having your superiors disembowel you, try to give your face a day or two to rest. That will allow your skin to heal, as well as the hair to grow a little longer (easier for you to see growth patterns and the razor to take them down). Also, as Ace said, do a good pre-shave treatment, and it will help you tremendously. Personally, I overdo it a little because my hair is like copper wire and my skin very sensitive, but I find that warm baby oil worked into the whiskers right after the shower goes a long way toward softening the face for the blading to come.

Whatever you do, though, find something that works for you. Sounds like you need it.

Unless your face is all rugged and leathery like Clint Eastwood, yes shaving will probably be more than a little aggitating to tender skin. Unfortunately, being in the military you may not have the luxury of taking a day or two off of shaving like us civilians. In the Canadian military I believe you can get a note from the base doctor exempting you from shaving for a few days if there is a medical concern; perhaps it is similar in the States?

I have shaved with a sunburn on my face before....once. The cold water shave is probably something to try. Part of the reason I had a bad experience was that it was a fairly good burn so anythign warm hurt like hell. Second remember that you are dragging a metal blade across what is essentially already damaged skin. Depending on how bad the burn is will depend on whether you think it is possible. Mine was not blistering or cracking, but it was definately not just some reddened skin. Also listen to all the prep recommendations if you attempt this. Part of the problem with burns is that your skin is already dehydrated due to damage. Proper prep (by which I mean whatever hydrates and soothes your face the best) will be key to a successful attempt. Much as I'd like to have another go and learn from my experience, I have no dsire to purposely burn my face to try this out. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

If I had that and I had to shave, I would try and mix an after sun and a preshave and then - as advised - do a cold water shave with something like Crema Cella or Proraso for sensitive skin.

And one pass has to do then, even if your superiors wouldn't like it. (Being superiors with lots of lunches in the sun, would also mean that they will surely know what a sunburn is)

thanks, yea I can go to the doc and get a shaving waiver which will allow me to go without shaving until the problem clears... but since it is only a light burn and my hair does grow slowly and that the burn happened on a Saturday what I plan to do is not shave on Sunday night as normal but shave Monday morning and only do one pass. It won't get bbs but one pass will meet regulations for the day. I'll continue only one pass until the burn is gone. I also plan to do all the suggested pre-shave measures to get everything nice and soft and moisturized for the shave. Thanks for all the suggestions!!!

If you've got pure aloe or aloe gel then lay that to it..it will help remoisturize the skin and soothe it. Then you might be able to squeeze in that shave after a day or so of resting the skin
