Default 5th shave and NO nicks!! YEA!

I shaved my 5th shave last night with a Gold Bug )vintage) I had dulled at first and used as a practice razor, shaving several times a day (practicing taking lather off). Then, after I got my 1 cent ebay Pakistan razor (yep, only cost 1 penny), I honed the Gold Bug back to life (as best I could) and have shaved twice with it since.

I have only shaved 2 times with the Gold Bug, my 4th and last night 5th time. Practicing with the dulled Pakistani razor let me feel the direction of the growth of my beard and I was shaving, at first, against the grain on my neck under my ears. So, last night I shaved up on my neck until I got to under my chin, then I shaved down, as they grow down about there. My neck is not razor burned this morning!!! YEA! Then, I shaved the rest of my face after doing my neck. Second lather was a lot more comfortable getting the last little bit off. Upper lip was a bit more tricky, but no nicks. Also, the razor burn I had on my neck is pretty much gone. I think it was from doing the first pass ATG.

Since I noticed the second pass with lather was a WHOLE lot easier, I was wondering if I should shave about once a day and not wait a day or two inbetween?

    Wahoooooo! Congrats!

I have similar issues with frequent shaving. I shave every two-three days. Every day just irritates my face no matter what I am using. Try skipping a day or two and see if you like the results better.

Congrats! I never thought about a practice razor, good idea. I shave every day to day and a half during the week. If I don't shave Friday then I let it go to Sunday unless we have something I need to shave for Saturday, then I shave about an hour before we leave. Keep the shiny side up!

nice!! I'm at about the same point in learning as you are, 5th shave or so.. I've also done some practicing with my feather non folding without the blade haha

I'm still getting nicked up a bit.. but mostly around preexisting bumps/blemishes

    Gibbs,
So your idea from a couple of weeks ago about practicing or "dry shooting" seems like it has worked well. Good job.

Thanks!! I even shaved with this Mulcuto made in Solengen Germany last night and no issues, no nicks no cuts.

When I got it there was a chip out of it there, and I just dulled it down and it was a letter opener. Then I ground down the chip area to back to the heel/stabilizer, and all that area that is relief ground is dull-dull!! The area that is flat in the blade area, the front part, is what I shaved with.

I was curious on how a smaller width blade would do at cutting and what kind of feel/drag it would have. I did, of course, hone it back up from dulled down, though the 1K , 4K, 8K and the I used my Franz Swaty barber hone and some Coticule slurry on the end, paying close attention to keeping it very light on the stone.

Aslo, this evening shaved again with it, but I detected a bit more pull and finished on the Gold Bug by A. Witte. Went smooth! Long strokes and no nicks. Then I lathered up a 3rd time and used the A. W. Wadsworth XLNT spike point. It was even smoother than the Gold Bug and went though it and picked up just a few I had missed. No cuts, no nicks and I can honestly say that I shaved similar to how I practiced and it went very well. Also no razor burn either!
