Shaving by Candle Light
Anyone else ever shave by candle light?
My shower is in the main bath but my shave-cave is in the 1/4 bath in my bedroom.
Mama gets up quite a bit later than I do and the door was removed for space considerations years ago. So to not blind her with the lights I set two candles up. One on the window ledge to my right and one on top of the commode tank to my left.
Not a lot of light but seems to be quite sufficent. I do have a shave basen with mirror and candlesticks in the bedroom but have not quite worked up to that. I prefer more water than the basen will hold.

Sounds cool. I'm half blind so to me it's all by feel pretty much anyway.

If you're making the most of a situation then my hat goes off to you, but if I try something like this (out of novelty or necessity) I think I'd try it with some of the oil lamps we have. One lamp has to be the equivalent of 3 or 4 candles. I use to read/study by them. For that application they where great. Candles made my eyes strain, lamps were just right. They've got oil now that is pretty-much scent-less.

We have a wealth of oil lamps. We also dip our own candles. A regular flat wick oil lamp will put out about 12 watts of light. An Alladin lamp will put out about 50 watts. I can set one on top of the stove at the end of the hall and light the living room, kitchen and hall. Plus the oil lamps would not set where I need them.

Thanked: 1195Can't say I've ever done the candle light thing, but it sounds relaxing. My only concern would be missed spots from shaving with low light.....

Thanked: 1371Brilliant!
Along with razors I have a fascination with kerosene lamps and lanterns. I am going to shave by the soft glow of kerosene later tonight. Thanks for the idea!

If she sleeps longer than you, I assume she's not going to to bed earlier. So, why don't you shave in the evening instead?

She goes to bed earlier and sleeps later and still complains about not gettong enough sleep. I did try shaving at night but just prefer the mornings. I do have another brush and soap set-up in the main bath. That way I just have to grab my razor and strop.

Thanked: 21Maybe some kind of roll up "door"/blind or curtain, but the candlelight thing sounds cool too.
