    Question Frowning Razor

    Three month straight razor newbie.

Among a group of razors I recently bought as a set was one with a slightly frowning edge. Sorry I can't post pictures right now. It is certainly less than a millimeter in difference and probably about .5mm. It was obviously honed with an emphasis on the middle of the razor (a heavy finger?).

In general, how hard is it to even up this size of frown? I will probably try to get it professionally restored since it is a vintage Le Grelot in otherwise good shape.

    Thanks for your advice.

Typically, there are two options I'll use with a frowning blade. One is to hone it out and the other is to hone the razor off the edge of the hone (like I would with the concave side of a warped blade). Honing it out leaves a straight edge; honing off the edge leaves the frown but produces a shave ready edge. For either, the amount of time varies based on the razor, so it's hard to say how long it would take.

You could also "hone" with the spine slightly raised to remove the frown, and then tape (or not) to reset the bevel and hone the razor up. I'd only do that for an extreme frown.

I believe there is also something you can do with taping in the frown, but it's not a method I'm familiar with.
