Thread: Same hand, same side vs crossing over

Any thoughts on this guys? up until today i'd been switching hands to do the same side of my face (i.e. razor in right hand for right side of face and vice versa). I always found that one side comes out marginally smooter than the others, and if i'm going to nick myself, it's probably going to be on a delicate spot when shaving on the left (I'm right handed)

I shaved today and apart from a few spots i just couldn't get to (read as "see where i was shaving due to my arm blocking my view) i did it entirely with the right hand. and while again the left side was marginally less smooth than the right, it was better than it had been when using my left hand.

Any thoughts? is it all down to what works for you or is there advantages in sticking with "same hand, same side"?

To use an anology, I play the guitar, and when learning, it's more comfortable to play the neck with your thumb over the top of the neck or kind of parallel. less painful on the wrist. The right way is to have your thumb pad dead centre at the back of the neck with the wrist dropped forward and down. Now in the short term the former is easier and less painful, but in the longterm it will hinder you playing better.

I shaved with the right (dominant) hand only for quite some time. I finally learned to shave with both hands and did for a time. I switched back to dominant hand only because I prefer it. YMMV. I also tend to keep my thumb over the neck on a guitar.

lol.. me too, I never said we don't slip back into bad habits

Well a guitar neck is a lot bigger than one on a 5 string. And I do let my thumb peek over the side, just like Earl. As to shaving with the non dominate hand, it take me longer, especially around my chin. Some days are good, and others are better. So I continue to switch hands. Anyway, whether picking or shaving, for me the point is to have fun.

absolutely, i really enjoy doing it, the most frustrating thing is waiting the day or two so i have enough stubble to go again. I've taken to stropping in between days. it's suprisingly therapeutic, getting the perfect "hiss"
