I have a Moss Scuttle and it does indeed keep the lather HOT between passes. Before you buy one, be aware that it is not designed to build lather in the scuttle, the bowl is simply not large enough. If it were, you would not maintain heat as well. For me this took a bit of getting used to as pre-scuttle I used a latte mug to build lather. With the scuttle, you swirl the cream and brush a bit, but then build the lather directly on your face. With the scuttle, the process is a bit more exacting. Modifying the water cream ratio is a bit more difficult after the fact. However, the Moss scuttle is not only functional but also a work of art. I can't wait until Winter when I can fully appreciate having piping hot lather throughout the shave.
Just another data point,
Ed

Thanked: 346I lather in my scuttle, but with my small brush I've got plenty of room.

Metal Is A Good Conductor Of Heat.
I have a stainless steel bowl which I hold bottom side up under hot water from the tap just after I soak my brush in hot water from the same tap. Does the trick for the first lather, but if I want to lather again which I only sometimes do, I have to turn the bowl over under the tap again as it cools as quickly as it warms up.

I use a metal mixing bowl as well, but I let mine float in the sink of hot water between latherings, with the brush splayed dead center.
