Question Do I suffer from a new shaving illness???

When I first started shaving with a straight I would shave every other day (my skin couldnt handle every day, and I get such close shaves there is really nothing there the next day)

Now that I am into 8/8 henckels, for the last two shaves I have waited 8 - 10 days in between shaves just so I can see the 8/8 go through my growth like its cutting through butter....then I like to wipe it on my wite shaving towels and look at the mound of hair it just took off with one stroke...is this a new illness or do others suffer from this affliction???

Yep. I'd say you are. I always wipe my razor on my shaving towel to clean it after each pass to minimize hitting it on the faucet and also because it's neat to see all the cuttings on the towel (although I don't wait for several days to build up a good growth).

A couple of weeks ago, I bought a blue mosaic 8/8 Friodur from John Crowley (like your wedding razor) and I haven't had a chance to use it yet. Now I'm worried that after I do, I'll be suffering from the same affliction as you.

I don't like to see my towels get too dirty which is why I rinse before I wipe, but I sure do love the feeling of a straight shave after many days of growth. I don't think we're alone there either.

It just so happens that was the razor I used today lol.....consider yourself warned....give yourself a few days growth so you can appreciate the tree chopping power of that beast...

Im pretty sure if I was stuck in the woods alone with one of my 8/8 Crowley honed razors I would have no trouble gathering firewood lol

    Josh,

I hear 'ya. I'm waiting for the perfect weekend day to shave with it for the first time.

Well, my hair grows like weeds, so I don't have to wait more than a day. But there is definitely a visceral pleasure to the feel of a 7/8 or 8/8 mowing down the whiskers. I also wipe on a towel so I can observe the mulch.

    JL,

Cease bragging on that John Crowley razor. Your making
    me yearn for one.

PS: When I do order a razor from John, I won't hold
    you accountable.

    Josh,

I must admit that that razor is without one of my favorites that I have seen on this site. First of all blue is my favorite color and a big blade like that rocks So enjoy and brag all you can we are all just jealous...
