That is so awesome. Is there any way to tell if there are barbers in one's area that actually do straight razor shaves?

Check The Art of Manliness | Men's Interests and Lifestyle . They have a brbershop locator on their site. And for the record, I am in no way affiliated with the website.

Thanked: 983Bob I have no doubt that that is one talented young lady there, but I would also like to say that, if it was one of your own OCD razors she was using, then she is using one of the best straight razors out there. A tool that any Barber/ette would be proud to use. I love mine that's for sure. Now why is it we only see photo's of you with pretty young ladies with there hands all over you?!?!

Bob, what an inspirational post. Thanks for that and also for making us feel jealous on every corner of the earth. Not only do you have someone to shave you, but an ace photographer thrown in as well!!
General Observations: In the first she looks like she's really enjoying it. In the fifth, it looks like she's about to take your head clean off, but I'm sure it's the angle of the photo
Nonetheless, is it possible that we give the young lady an "honorary" membership to SRP? She is clearly an example to all of us!

Thanked: 101Great pics and a great writeup! She obviously knows what she is doing. Neat looking shop too. Very cool that the other young fella you mentioned taught her shave. Passing it on is what it is about.

That's gotta be in Texas. They have Craftsman toolboxes for the work spaces in the barbershop.....LOL! Sure looks like she does a great job! I bet she and her mom are some sweet gals.

That was my first thought!
I think this is a great idea. I don't know many young girls who would have any interest in straight shaving a man's face. Or straight shaving at all for that matter. That's really cool.
And all I can think is, she's going to have to have some pretty self-assured boyfriends in the years ahead. She does something they probably won't be able to do!
Thanks again for sharing!
Peace,

My 14 and 12 YO daughters need to see this. They are convinced I have gone completely crazy with my new found interest in straight shaving. I wonder if I would be willing to even let them start learning with me as the recipient........ no way!
Pleased to see the First Aid kit close by in the 6th photo!

From reading some old time barbers manuals, and especially historical accounts, in the 1800s and early 1900s, I get the impression it was not uncommon for very young boys to work in barber shops. As I have this impression from anecdotes, it could be incorrect.
I remember one story in a collection of old barber shop stories about a boy that was left alone in a shop when the adult barber went on an errand. A cowboy came in for a straight razor shave and told the boy if he was cut during the shave, the cowboy was going to shoot the boy dead. The shave went flawlessly. The cowboy asked if the boy was afraid. "No. If I cut you, I decided I was going to cut your throat!"
True or not, I remember the story.
(The other story I remember was about a barber in Chicago, I think it was, that was shaving a man his first week on the job that, unknown to him, was a mobster. Suddenly, the other barbers ran out the back. Someone came into the store at that moment, and shot the man he was shaving.)
