Thanked: 0shaving to exfoliate
I've started shaving with a little Japanese straight razor because the hormone blocker I take for cancer has given me a full-on fu manchu. Fortunately, the hair is sort of colorless and translucent, but waxing and threading are painful and time-consuming. I can wait a week or 10 days before I shave again, and it hasn't coarsened or produced a scratchy stubble. I'm not sure if it exfoliates because the blade is still sharp (I think). The first time I used it I didn't tie my hair back and inadvertently chopped off a large lock of it--the razor was that sharp.
Can anyone tell me how often I have to change razors? I always give the blade a sideways scrub with a toothbrush and alcohol before I put it up. Is there a way to better preserve the edge?
