Thread: Shaving face for exfoliating

From back during my learning days, I found that a dull razor would exfoliate the skin on my arms just as much as a keen one. If you want to try for the effect without actually shaving your hair, it may be worthwhile to try with a dull blade.

None of the girls I know do. but it's an interesting concept

That's a good point about the dull blade. I saw a Korean video of this sort of scraping massage being done with a small flat rounded paddle type thing. It seems from the videos I've seen that both men and women have their entire faces done at the barbershops in Japan they want to chop all hairs everywhere.

What would be the best method for dulling a blade on purpose but have it be smooth? I don't have any straights to spare (my first is coming in the mail YAY!) I have SE and DE blades I could sacrifice. My guess is that an SE blade would be easier to fiddle with, I would feel more comfortable not shaving the hair on my face, it's not bothering anyone at the moment so probably best to leave it be.

I think I'll stick to my buff puff and leave what little hair is there alone

I have done Nanna's face and I must say that although it did exfoliate her face and make it glow it also showed her how much of the fine hairs she has (she didn't like that). If she kept it up regularly I think that she would like the effect, but she doesn't shave anything with regularity. That being said I will stop as she is a member here.

Well I gave it a try and it did make my skin glow and feel unbelievably smooth! It may only be something for the exfoliation obsessed (like myself) but it was fun. I have a Diane hair shaper, the kind that has slip on guards over a longer blade. Would sanding or rubbing the edge on a lower grit stone (I have one for keeping my cheap kitchen knives sharpened) then stropping give a blunt edge that is smooth? I want to try this without cutting the tiny hairs to see what the difference in exfoliating might be.

It would work for dulling it. I don't know how smooth it would make it though as those stones are pretty course. It would not be taking any hair off either so it kinda defeats the purpose that was outlined here.
