Wade and Butcher Celebrated Razor
Just received this razor in the mail today. Ran it through the pyramids on Norton 4k and 8k, hit it on my coticule and stropped it. I took a shower and got the closest shave I have had since starting straight razor shaving. How does a razor with the VR stamp shave this smoothly, being at least 140 years old. I am amazed. I have another of these on the way and am planning on sending them to Glen to clean them up a bit and have a matched pair. I don't think I will ever shave with anything but a W&B from here on out. I'll get pics up when I get a chance. In one day this has become my favorite razor. And the best part is it was a $50 ebay find.

Grats on a great razor! W&B's are great ones for sure. I'm with Shooter tho, there are so many nice ones, and I have yet to come across an old sheffield I did not enjoy.. I have to admit tho, if the truth be told I am rather partial to old sheffields
Best of luck.

I have planty of razors, just none of them shave me as well as this did on its maiden shave. Something about a fuller grind Sheffield that my face really likes. I have a new Dovo Extra Hollow Ground razor that leaves my face feeling like hamburger. I have a Wade and Butcher that Lynn is honing for me now and I can't wait to get that back. My bigger point was how remarkable that razor shaves and it is over 140 years old. The whole razor is in great shape. Original scales, blade not too stained, tight pins. I am expecting the other one on Monday and hope it is in the same shape.

Congratulations!
You have a great razor. I also have a 6/8 Wade and Butcher "The Celebrated" and it is among my top shavers. Both of my Sheffield razors (W&B and Wostenholm) give the smoothest feeling shave on my skin. I love them. That said, my favorite razor is a newer Thiers-Issard Le Grelot. If my particular Sheffields are A+, the TI Le Grelot is an A+++. YMMV
While I am occasionally tempted to think about a developing a seven-day set of one brand as my total collection, I enjoy having 26 razors with a variety of brands, sizes, and grinds. I tend to love whatever razor is in my hand at the moment.
BRANDS: Le Grelot (4), TI (2), Case (2), Union Cutlery (4), W&B (1), Wostenholm (1), dd (2), Henckels (1), D. O. & H. (1), Torrey (1), Dovo (1), Hart Steel (1), Heljestrand (2), Strega (1), and Boker (1).
COUNTRIES: USA (8), Germany (6), England (2), Sweden (3), and France (6).
SIZES: 3/8, 4/8, 9/16, 5/8, 11/16, 6/8
GRINDS: wedge, near-wedge, quarter, half, and full.

Nice group of razors. Think I will thin out the herd and then re-build with mostly Sheffields, as they seem to give me the best shaves.
