I know that bentonite for sure was used straight instead of soap. Even after they started making lard-based soaps, they continued leaving bentonite in the stables to kill the odor even now. Mud is slippery because of the clay content and the clay also absorbs water. Therefore pure clays should provide a better shaving experience than water alone.

Actually, it's a good way to do your final touchup. hen you put water on your face after using lather, it becomes very slick, and whiskers are not concealed from view or touch.

All I know is the TSA took away all my shaving cream and I am out of soap and I am now such a spoiled little bitch that I was too snobby to buy anything from CVS and would rather not shave until my replacements come...last year around this time I would have shaved with soap, conditioner, or something from a can...oh ya...I'll save money by not using disposables...SRA (straight Razor Anonymous)....Hey...I wonder if there is an SRA...I bet you could buy good razors cheap...hmmm....kinda like going to a sex therapy group to get laid lol

If you search the net for shaving soap recipes you will find most (if not all) of them are using 1/4-1 table spoon of bentonite clay. I have done superfatting regular soap and adding green clay, and it worked fine...

do you use castor oil in your regular soaps? I've found castor oil plus clay can work in regular soap recipes but I just don't like the feel of the soap for shaving without the castor oil.
