cut the $%##% out of myself.....the razor gods did it!!!!
I was shaving it was with the grain pulling the skin tight...the blade never jumped, or slid, or wiggled but I had this very wide (not deep) cut in the middle of my upper chin below my lip. I mean WIDE (1/4" approx)...since it wasnt deep the styptic stick fixed it no stitches or anything...but man I swear....it was shaving normally and then all of a sudden oh $@#$$ thats gonna leave a mark...blood everywhere.....still couldnt tell you what happened.....Im pretty sure it was either someone playing with a voodoo doll or the razor gods were against me!!!!

Thanked: 1jl,
has your wife caught you buying more razors? maybe she started a pact with the razor gods? an ounce of blood for every razor you don't buy?
the two times i've cut myself (beyond typical nick-age) was with round-tippers. doing an accross the grain on my right cheek, the ti 6/8 super gnome dug in at my cheekbone. felt it right away, but blood was minor, cleared up immediately.
second time was with a timor 5/8 blue while trimming up my left sideburn. that was more of the tip doing a slight 1/4 slice into the skin. didn't notice it until i wiped the stubble off the blade and saw that my beard was redder than before... took a while to heal up, but again, blood was minor.
i've found with the round tips, that after some honing, they can start to square-off a little. maybe it's just me? i'm a big fan of the spike/flat points, so maybe it's lowering my guard with the rounders? with the spikes, i use the shoulder a lot more on the tricky spots on my neck. personally, i still like the spikes for upper lip/nostril work.

I'm gonna blame the lather. Sounds like it was a bit on the dry side. What was that quote from the O.J. trial? "If the lather's not slick, the razor's gonna stick!"

What about shaving angle. Although I rarely cut myself these days. *knock on wood* That was the spot I got my very first cut. The chin changes directions alot there. I remember as I was making that stroke, "this looks like the wrong angle to approach that curve", and zip ... there it was, my first straight razor nick. Much smaller than you describe but the same spot. Should you have changed your razor angle to match the contours of your face a little better?
