My first true cut
It's not a long or a deep cut, but this a.m., I did get a full fledged cut and nothing I could call a nick. I knew exactly why the very second that it happened. I had a piece of hard candy in my mouth and at the time, it was on the side of the cheek I was shaving. Nice smooth downward stroke, then it hit the bump and viola, instant blood. Note to self: NO more candy while shaving. Just thought I would share the experience.

I've been at it for 2 years, last cut was over a year ago...until last week. A slice on my upper lip.
It just happens sometimes!

Let me get this straight, You had candy in your mouth while Wet-Shaving?? WOW, that took some guts!! [and blood].
When it is advised to give Straight Razor shaving you full undivided attention, that MEANS YOUR UNDIVIDED ATTENTION, sorry, didn't mean to scream at you, very sorry about your cut, however it will heal and you will be a bit wiser for the lesson. I cut myself quite a bit as a matter of about 3 times a month, nothing to bad but enough to remind me to not be yelling at the animals while shaving.
Have fun, and pay attention, this is a great hobby, you'll grow to love it as much as we do.
tinkersd of SRP!

Welcome to the Blood Club! Straight Razor Shaving is a Whole Different World! I try to always learn from my mistakes and try not to repeat them! Candy in the mouth was a Major 'Oops!' Learn from it! About in 1971 there was a movie that used the phrase 'Practice the Six P's" Those P's are this:
Proper
Planning
Prevents
P--s
Poor Performance
That's all I remember about the movie, but for all of these years, I've tried to remember them in every endeavor that I partake in!
Have fun! Smooth Shaving!

It's hard to get a really good cut shaving with a DE,
that's why straight shavers use a straight to make whiskers flee.
Anyone can shave with a cartridge razor and get a decent shave.
It's different with a straight because with a straight you have to be brave.
You have to concentrate when straight shaving, there are no bets you can hedge
because when you are shaving with a straight, you're always literally "on the edge".
In my opinion, blood in the sink dresses up the bathroom, really improves its state,
and that is just one more reason to dump cartridges and go with a straight.
