Warning for the Near-Sighted
Yesterday, I had my razor opened to 270deg like Lynn shows in his video and I was preparing to do a N-S in the middle of my upper lip. I leaned in close to the mirror to see better and the tip of my scales tapped the mirror and drove the edge into my nose (you know the section between the nostrils). It wasn't a hard enough tap to cause bleeding, but it did surprise me.
I thought I would provide a friendly reminder for all to "watch your scales".

Thanked: 346I always wear my glasses when shaving. If I lose track of the tip I'd rather scratch my lenses than my eyeballs.
And by "scratch" I mean "eviscerate".

It's one of those funniest home video moments when I don't know whether to laugh or cry....... Um...... I think I'll laugh

I can't remember who said it, but I've repeated it before. Your razor is the most dangerous when it is not against your face.

Thanks. I was too lazy to look up the word myself. Of course, mine almost became a "deviated septum"!

This has happened to me, with the blade shaving my throat at the time (no injury, except the year or so that the surge of panic took off my life).
I don't wear my glasses while I shave because they get in the way of my face-stretching; also, when I turn/raise my head to reach sideburns or neck, I'd be looking around (not through) them anyway.
What's helped is, a) I've learned with practice a safe-but-pretty-close distance from the mirror, and b) I've learned to depend on "feel and sound" instead of "sight" in matters of blade angle, pressure, and so forth.
But shaving and golf are both adding up to compell me to look into long-wear contacts!

The countertop in my bathroom is quite wide, so I had to buy a mounted mirror to be able to see up close, and I've tapped the scales against it once or twice as well. It's a pretty sobering thing. And yesterday I gave the tip of my thumb a really small cut when I was swapping hands. I'm still trying to get my routine down, and it's these little things that keep reminding me to be careful.
