    Default Extended Days Between Shaves

I stared straight razor shaving in October of 2010. As I have gotten better with my shaving technique I find that my best shaves tend to be 3 days or so apart. My skin feels smoother and I tend to nick less. I also seem to find the anticipation of the shave and the actual shave more pleasurable. There is something strangely pleasing about knocking off a 4 day growth of beard with a scary sharp razor.

Excessive stubble is really where a straight shines far beyond the capabilities of a cartridge razor. You can wipe off a week's growth with the same ease as a day's, whereas a cartridge would just plug and pull.

I think you've hit it on the head. I am fascinated at watching 4 or 5 days beard growth disappear with a single pass.

So true. Some times I shave once a week just cause it feels good to shave through the beard.

I go as often as possible without shaving, I love watching several days or over a weeks worth of beard wipe away as if it were but a smudge. Like Ron said, no clogged blades, no pulling or tugging, no discomfort whatsoever. No more effort than a typical shave.

This might be a bit off-topic, but I used to hit myself on the head with a hammer because it felt so good when I stopped.

I could go two, maybe even three days, without shaving with no complaints from my job. Three days would be pushing it since I deal with the public. Back before I got into wet shaving as a hobby/sport I might do that from time to time. Since I began shaving with straight razors I can't stand to feel stubble. I need to shave daily and look forward to it. I do agree though that you can't beat a straight for removing multiple days or weeks of beard growth.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Agree totally. I often toyed with the notion of every other day shaves as I'm sure the shaves would be great. Work doesn't care if I never shave but over the last couple years I've probably missed less than 5 days of shaving. Unless I'm deathly ill or something totally out of the ordinary is happening, it seems like I just automatically shave. It's become an indispensable part of my day. I think I'm really a creature of habit and changing my routine would just be very difficult. A year and a half or so ago, I experimented with evening shaves and it just felt really weird to shave after work. Besides, I've been a morning shaver my entire life. I suspect getting into the habit of say Monday Wednesday and Friday shaves would be harder still.
The older I get, the better I was

I have to shave every day. If I miss a day, then women all over the world get really upset about it. My wife doesn't seem to care one way or the other though.

With a cartridge I shaved as little as possible but when SWMBO complained i had to go every other day. With a straight I would love to shave everyday but my face wont allow it, it is not a big fan of every other day either so I am stuck with every third day. I do occasionally like to go a week plus just so I can get a nice smooth shave with little trouble. I have always been a fan of the beard and I feel it would be amazing to have a couple weeks possibly even a few months of growth gone in a single swipe.
