Got the Routine
Well I've been at this now for about a year, and I've hit on a really good routine. Nothing special, just WTG, then a few spots XTG, then ATG. I'm learning the various spots on my face where the direction has to be adjusted to stay WTG/XTG. Each day now I get done in about 10-15 minutes, no feeling of rushing, and definitely DFS if not always BBS. On days when I lack time, or if I am going out and want to be fresh in the evening, I find just the single WTG will restore that feeling of a full, clean shave.
My general routine has become, after showering or washing my face:
Brush in hot water a few moments to soak while...
Rub Musgo pre-shave oil on my face. Don't know if this really helps but it feels great!
Whip up the lather in the mug and then onto the face
Give the razor maybe 25 laps on linen, 50 on leather while the lather soaks in.
WTG, a little XTG, then ATG
Warm rinse and Alum Block then rinse razor, brush, mug
Cold rinse and Nivea Aftershave Balm
Dry and give razor about 15 linen and 25 leather
Finish with Dominica Bay Rum
Feels great!

Nice routine, almost exactly like mine. No Alum nor balm for me, though.
I do take the time for longer shaves sometimes, but only when I have the time.

Sounds like a very usable routine.
Mine is somewhat similar, I took my time to get it just right, for me
Experimentation has been a big part of my journey, but now most shaves are pretty much the same each day.Bjoernar
Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

Lawson, 'Great to see you here. 'Seems like its been a while, and we're poorer for your absence.
I stumbled onto a similar routine from needing to have some stubble at night with which to test new edges. I went to a single, mostly WTG pass w/ touch-ups in the heavy brush. It seemed to improve the first pass results to the point its still superior to my pre-str8 shaves.
For those who've not seen posts from the honorable Lawsonstone, he's immortalized for the statement 'poor technique is unmatched at cutting everything but beard' (rough recitation from memory).

Thanked: 1Nice routine...sounds very close to mine except that during the week I use my '58 DE and save the SR for the weekend (just learning and dont want to rush). I made my own pre-shave oil w/coconut oil and EVOO and some fresh linen EO. and I also made my own bay rum AS with Gin, Dark Jamacian Rum, Cloves, Cinnimin stick, bay leaves and lemon zest. Easy Peezy
