Default Mommy - my razor bit me!!

I've been using straights for about four months now and today, that horrible 'titanium' blade bit me, leaving two cuts around 1cm long - one vertically under my left ear lobe and the other on the point of my chin.
Both when I was going XTG.
Having studied the posts from the more experienced shavers here, I reckon the angle was way too steep. (like 90deg )
I'm buying a real razor tomorrow from johnmrson, who assures me that it will arrive 'shave ready' without needing to even strop it. (Many thanks, John)
I'm really looking forward to getting used to the proper equipment as I am using a GD and a 'titanium' ATM and am sure that I will be able to do better with a well honed razor.
For the record, before I found this amazing place all my straight shaving 'knowledge' came from google and You Tube....mmmmmmmmm
No-where did they mention starting slowly so I just shaved my entire face from the start and tried to put an edge on the 'titanium' blades that I bought.
Ah well, hindsight is always 20/20 isn't it.

Yeah, that whole titanium coating thing is pretty ridiculous when you consider that the only place it is NOT is on the edge of the razor. Do you have a decent strop? You need that too.

I only have the one that came with one of the 'titaniums' off EBay.
I'm going to get one of MickR's 'roo hide ones when I can.
I was looking at it the other day and I think the thin leather side might actually be imitation (it stretches a lot and has a cloth type backing).
Given that the claret was flowing, it was the closest shave I had ever done - I might be getting my technique almost correct.

So, your razor bit you? I love that expression. I use it all the time. Well, only when it happens, that is.

Those little buggers just wait for the opportunity to bite you! I have been very careful with my STR8 razors and havent had weepers for a while - then I picked up my trusted DE razor and OUCH! I never expected to see blood from my DE and got careless.

I am pleased to report that the 'titanium' blade has been retired to the bottom drawer, never to be used as a razor again.
I polished up my GD and did some honing practice on it yesterday and got a DFS with it.
I have also started using the 'trick' of placing my strop on the edge of a bench to develop my skills in that area too.
    Eveyting is getting better!!!!
We'll see how it goes when my full hollow comes around in the rotation - that will be the test.
