Yes there are many factors which have nothing to do with the steel like weight and balance and the way you make use of them and the feel of a wedge type vs a hollow grind but I'll make a bold statement and say that if you took two entirely different razors and they were both honed to the max and someone else shaved you I'd be willing to bet you couldn't tell the difference because you should feel nothing.

So, dyimages ... they're loving you (or at least the taste of you) a little too much?

oh, couldn't have said it better!! I have a 12 day rotation and each and every one of them shaves different. The spanish points like to remove my ears, the spikes tend to 'edge' me on the rounded spots, but all my round points sing to me, since my technique is so rough. The rounds just don't cut me as often. The wedges are smooth as silk, but tend to remove things they pass over.

They are all great shavers, just each one has it's own personality. I dig it!!!

    Good luck!!

Got around 100 straights at this point, old, new, ugly, beautiful, 3/8 through8/8+. Wih proper technique and honing, they may feel different but all give a great shave. If not, I worry them with hones until they do. A warped and difficult W and B yielded yesterday to a YG Thuringian.

So the'll respond differently to different hones and will give different edges depending on how and on what they were honed.

Just a couple of examples off the top of my head are Sheffield blades dont really like high grit synthetic hones I've found, and Swedish steel seems to prefer Shaptons over Naniwas.

Hence the reason for HAD I guess! It's like "that edge was good but I reckon that hone will make it better"

Then you've got the differences in soap, stropping and shave prep which will alter things again, as dylan says.

I've shaved with my Wacker one day with Tabac and thought "my god that's amazing" and then the next day used a different soap and not been as impressed because, for me, I prefer tabac over soap X.

Or used the same soap and different blades, or used a different strop...

    All part of the fun!

There is the rub: "There are so many variables!"

It makes it difficult for beginners to become consistent and build a technique but once technique is there, those same variables make each shave a new discovery. Great hobby!
