Default First shave with a Wade & Butcher (and a Sheffield in general) ;)

So i got this bad girl a few days ago from a bundle off of craigslist.. originally i was just going to a Dovo Bergischer Lowe but the seller offered me this razor and a caswell-masey silver tip badger brush for $20 more so i couldn't resist! Needless to say she shaves like a dream! the seller told me he had it hones when he went to Europe, and i don't think he lied! Its was by far one of the best shaves i had! i think i shall be buying more Sheffields now! ;D

Let me know what yall think about her!

Damn fine razor you have there. Very different shave technique required though vs. a Solingen full hollow. I love all my children equally

    Congratulations!

You can hardly go wrong with a good vintage Wade and Butcher. Mine is probably the smoothest shaver of all my razors. IMO, vintage Sheffield steel is awesome.

A very fine looking razor you have there, looks like she has plenty of life in her yet. Enjoy!

Please elaborate - how does the required shaving technique differ ?

    Thanks.

For me, wedges seem a little more forgiving as far as the shaving angle goes, and since they're heavier you have to adjust your grip accordingly.

There is something about Sheffield steel that makes for a great razor, it seems to me to be one of the softer steels out there and yet it gets and keeps a great edge, they seem to be more gentle on the face as well.

'Glad the old girl still puts big smiles on your face. My experience w/ sheffields has been quite rocky. They're very beautiful. They seem to be almost the archtype of a beautiful old blade. My face/skin doesn't share that view, which is tragic, 'cause they always catch my eye. I gave up on them & just got them for honing practice, and finally ran across one I liked. Its the more recent W&B 'special'. 'Extra Hollow. 'Shaves alot more like a Soligen or US blade. 'Honed up an old Celebrated 1/4 grind yesterday and will test the edge, but the absence of feedback and face compatibility means it will likely be sold. I envy those who love the feel. They're so beautiful and the quality is all there. 'Hope that old girl gives you decades of smiles.
