I think it's safe to say there is something about the blade that is causing you to do something differently. Maybe the balance or the feel or something which is making you try and compensate for some sensory input. That of course assumes the blade is fine. I agree you need to check it with a loop for micro chips or some defect. If you don't have any magnifiers the poor mans way is hold the edge under a bright focused light and start tilting the blade and as you do usually imperfections in the edge will report to you by glinting of the light or maybe an uneveness or reflection. You need to do it slowly and look very closely.

Thanked: 443If your cuts are coming during ATG passes, it may just be a dullish blade. Especially with a high blade angle, if it's not sharp enough to cut the hair right away then the hair just directs it down into your skin.

Well, for those looking for a conclusion, it was a mix of the Dovo being heavier than the Torrey and it being a little dull. I stopped getting bigger cuts after a few days of just using the Dovo, but still got little nicks. So, I used a little strop paste and fixed it up and now it's fine. I guess I'm just going to have to wait longer before switching back and forth in the future.

Glad you got it figured out and the Dovo wasn't damaged!

When I first got my Ivy I had the same issue, still have a faint scar running down one cheek (my razor kiss :P) but I eventually found that I did so less and less the more I used it. I put it down to skill but in hindsight it seemed to stop after I bought my green strop paste so it could have been the same issue

Thanked: 94of my 8 razor's i have 3 dovo's. I have found that the 5/8 ebony is the bane of my existance. It has it's own personality and reacts totally different on my face! I jokingly refer to it as the mosquito...It flies around my face imperceptibly, takes its blood, and leave's me itchy! It was bought new and honed by Lynn so i sincerley doubt that the blade has any issues, just somehow no matter how slow i take it she bites me! nothing major, but still annoying.
I am fully aware that the razor can preform amazingly, it is my lack of talent with it that cause's my issue! I accept it and look forward to the dance with her every week.

I tend to agree with the previous comments, different razors have different qualities, that is one of the excuses we use for acquiring such a selection, take your time to learn one at a time, it may be the technique you employ is not suitable for your face and that razor design.

Thanked: 31I call my bitter "Eleanor" (as in the movie Sixty Seconds). Of my two W&Bs, the heavier grind blade (bottom in pic) gets me more times than not. I think it's all in my head now...just got to shave it out!
