FWIW If you think about the bevel angle, a 20-30 degree razor angle would have the bevel sitting pretty much flat on the skin, therefore giving a 90 degree cutting angle in relation to the whisker.
This would also explain why heavier grinds seem to need a slightly steeper angle to work effectively and full hollows etc seem to work better with a shallower angle.
I don't know but it seems to make sense to me.Last edited by Havachat45; 08-12-2011 at 03:45 PM.

Are you saying this is due to different bevel angles? I'm not quite following how the hollowness of the grind makes any difference regarding the cutting angles
Also, with my face the cutting angle in relation to the whisker also depends on the whisker and from which direction I approach it, since many of them do not grow straight up out of my skinFind me on SRP's official chat in ##srp on Freenode. Link is at top of SRP's homepage

We only recommend the 20-30 degree thing because it is a good starting off point for folks starting out and lacking experience. As you go you will determine the proper angle you need for your razor and beard.

Yes hoglahoo, I suppose I am.
I have not shaved with a wedge (yet), however, I have a couple of different grinds in my rotation and I find that I need to adjust my angles to suit each one. They are different widths as well.
This is how I justify my RAD....hehehehe
I've also read how different members here have had to adjust their shaving angles as well when using different grinds.
Maybe what thebigspendur says in the next post is more what I was trying to say about starting at 20-30 degrees and adjusting from there to get the best shave.Hang on and enjoy the ride...
