Shaving daily with the straight doesn't give you irritation? It always did to me when I attempted that, usually on my neck and whiskers, no matter how soft the passes were.Quote:

I usually shave every other day, when I used cartridges I only shaved every other week or for special occasions so I really have no comparison.
Me either, Paco... people are generally put off by a clean shaven electrician, but lucky me.. I work for the state. The state doesn't know I exist and neither do the people I do work for.... unless they're sitting in the dark.Quote:

I used to shave once a week with a mach which felt more of a chore then an enjoyment. Now that I have made the change to straights and met such a great group of encouraging people through SRP I enjoy shaving every other day. I have tried doing it daily but after a few days it starts to feel tender. If i take a few days off or go more then 3 days between shaves I find the experience of the shave is better as it really feels like it cleans me up but stil I enjoy the ritual and will continue to shave every other day.
I can say with certainty however that my razor collection is growing much much faster then my facial hair does ;) Getting to a point where I can get a lifetime of shaves in without ever hitting a hone.
Oh, but when you can stroke your razors briefly on the hone... and know they'll once again perform... that's the ticket.Quote:

I shave every day almost at exact time regardless DE or straight razor shave.
Because I just started to shave with straight razor the the quality of shave is not as with DE but practice makes perfect. And also, shaving is great ritual as well as stress therapy and it would be a shame not to give it to yourself daily.
I depends. I can get by skipping a day with a straight razor shave.
However, I enjoy straight razor shaving so much that I prefer to do so everyday.
I'm in the one day on, one day off camp. I have keratosis pilarus and my pores get irritated easily by my own dead skin cells which may contribute to my problem of bumpier, itchier skin if I go more than 4-5 days without shaving. My sweet spot is shaving the day after the day after a shave and not more than 4-5 days after the last shave.
I'm also noticing my beard stubble returning a good 6 hours sooner with a DE safety razor as compared to an open razor.
I've shaved every single day since I started on the sixth of June; that's 118 days. It's more than 118 shaves as once or twice I shaved twice on the same day. TODAY, however, is the first day of NOT shaving for at least a week while I'm on holidays. In the BS era (Before Straights) I never shaved on weekends and when on holidays, but I loved shaving with the straight so much I shaved every day.
Circa BS 26, when a Recruit, I shaved with an Army issue DE (I think it was a Gillette, with a blue plastic handle, a TTO). I sliced my face enough to never use a DE again until now.
Yesterday I shaved with my new DE (a Mühle R 89) three passes. With a straight, I do one and a bit passes (WTG and ATG on my jawline). Doing three passes with the DE was a breeze. The Astra blade was incredibly smooth. I felt very smooth still hours later. If i were back in the Army again I'd shave like that before Guard Duty for sure. I think I could go longer after shaving with the DE than with a straight. Normally, I have to actually point out to my wife that I'm looking incredibly masculine and rugged lately when I go without shaving for a few days. So my experience, in regards to the straight Vs DE seems to differ from some, probably simply because it was the first time I ever did three full passes; I'm sure with a newly honed straight, when I progress to the point of doing three proper passes, the result will be excellent...
