    Default Hot towel tips

I wet mine and nuke it in a large plate. What else do you guys do? Do you put scent on the towel prior to nuking?

    Cheers

I wet towels, wring them out, then place them on a steam tray in a rice steamer. Works great. MikeB

I've microwaved a damp towel in the past, but seeing as how most people shave right after they've hopped out of the shower, I think it's pretty time-consuming and unecessary.

I can get steaming hot water right from the tap, as can most people, so usually I just splash some of that on my face and skip the towel altogether. Sometimes it's fun to replicate the barbershop experience (where steaming towels are essential), but most of the time I can't be bothered.

A few splashes of hot water and a keen razor is all you need.

I usually shave after a shower. I get good hot water from my tap, and just soak a face cloth with that. Then ring it out once and press it against my face/growth area. I usually only ring it out enough that there is still some drip from it, so that when I press it against my face, the excess squeezes out.

When I have used the hot towel I have been able to get it hot enough straight out of the tap. Sorry I can't offer more.

If my bathroom was bigger (and I lived in lala land) I would buy one of those towel heater/steamers and also a chiller and have my wife make sure she had them stocked with a dozen shaving towels at all times...while Im dreaming I would also have her bring me a nice tumbler of single malt scotch just before my shave.....oh dreaming is fun....

I just soak it in hot water from the tap. I don't wring it at all, though I let it drip a moment or two. My routine is usually like this:

    1) Shower, wash face.
    2) Lather.
    3) Hot towel over lather.
    4) Rinse; hot towel.
    5) Lather and shave.

Maybe this has been brought up before but I just bought one of these.

Like many people I keep the temperature setting on my hot water heater a little lower to save money. Its just my wife and I so it makes sense.

This device gets 16 oz of water very hot in under a minute, so time is not an issue and it only costs $13.99. I can heat some water and pour it on a towel, wring it out, blow on my fingers because its so hot, and then put it on my face. Fantastic!

I put some more water in and now I have very hot water for wetting my brush and making a hot lather. If I have enough time I heat another batch and finish off with another hot towel.

For what its worth, I have only been straight shaving for a little over a month now and every day I get a better shave then the day before as I learn more and get better using both hands. The first day I used this device was the first day I was able to get a BBS.

    Coincidence?? I think not...

How hot is hot enough? Amazingly, your face can endure more heat than your fingers. Having said that...think about this...you are heating up your face to an extreme to then drag a VERY sharp object over and across your face. This is definitely a recipe for disaster, or at the least...irritation. I do understand the "luxury" of the hot towel...but in the long run, I'm not sure how good this may be for your face.
