All good suggestions given so far another thing can help you get the feel for the right angel is to use two hands on the razor (if you don't need to hand stretch) This will add some additional control just remember not to put pressure with ether hand which can get tricky.

Thanked: 0I have problems with this area as well. it's always a combo of razor angle and sharpness. Lately I've come to understand that for me at least beard prep is as important for that area. The neck isn't as forgiving of shaving, and it's easy to irritate the area. Having a good wet soap or cream application is essential for me for the neck.

Thanked: 15that's also the hardest area for me to shave smoothly. I believe it is a matter of practice for me, and that it will come in time. with the many different directions my beard grows there, I find it hard to get a good against the grain shave, especially in the hollows formed on either side of my adam's apple.

You need to use a slicing motion when you use a straight razor, don't like too much but you should use a lateral movement with your normal stroke moving. That and good stretching will provide a closer shave. I don't shave ATG and haven't in about a year. HI_bud_gl aka Sham taught me this stroke and I haven't looked back, since using it I don't need an ATG pass. I just use WTG, XTG, XTG passes. You need to be VERY careful with this stroke, use almost negative pressure, light hands, etc. Don't over do it!
