Hey everybody!
Long time no talk! School has been great and I'm loving every moment (except for a bad breakup haha) of Liberty University.
You all are a supportive community and I'm doing a persuasive speech in my COMS class on why shaving with a straight razor is better than using a disposable. I need some great, legitimate sources on the prices associated, the economic advantages, and the enjoyment and "feel-good" factors associated with straight razor shaving.
I'm not asking anyone to go out of their way to find me anything, but if anyone, in their research over the years, has found any valuable resources on shaving with a straight razor, let me know!

I know for me I have found that there is less irratation and i enjoy shaving now. There is also a sticky under shaving with a straight called Benefits from Straight Razor Shaving it has about 75 posts maybe that will help.

I love the vintage aspect of it all, the closer shave, and the quiet time. I'm sure you can save $$, but once you start, it is hard to slow down. Becomes more of a hobby or art.....then you find another blade that you must have, or a strop, or a brush......well, you get the idea.

If you can avoid the AD's inherent with our daily hobby, then the cost effectiveness and savings alone justify using a straight razor. Two razors*, one strop, one barber's hone is all you'll ever need. That leaves just buying soap or cream periodically. Might I suggest you PM Lynn, he might just know a thing or two.
*you could get by with one razor, but if you send one out for repair/honing-it's good to have a back-up razor. Why doesn't the taco truck drive around the neighborhood selling tacos & margaritas???

Thanks guys! I appreciate it. I've been straight shaving since February, so I know most of this. I'm looking for articles that I can cite in my speech. I guess I could do an interview with Lynn if he would want because he's an expert.

Thanked: 941) The facial preparation required for a straight shave is cleaner and better for your skin.
As a chef I used to have a lot of problems with my skin from standing over a stove of cooking oil all day and after starting shaving with a straight those problems are pretty much all gone now because lathering up the face gives it a very thorough scrubbing.
2) You get a closer shave, meaning that you can get away with shaving every second day.
3) You can get two good second hand razors for $25 each and that will be all the razors you will ever need in a lifetime. A strop is another additional cost of say $50, which again for practical purposes can be a once in a lifetime purchase.
4) If you get into the collecting/restoration side of things it becomes an enjoyable hobby, not a daily chore. There are websites like SRP, and there are plenty of opportunities to meet like minded chaps. Can you imagine anything more boring or pointless than a group of people who like shaving with disposables?
5) If you get into the craft side of things there are many ways to express that. Restorations. Custom scales. Custom blades. Reshaping blades. There are many variations allowing people to have very different collections.
