    Default Grips

I've noticed a topic that hasn't really been discussed much is the various grips everyone uses for their different passes. I assume everyone uses a similar grip for their WTG passes but as far as their XTG grip I'm sure there are many differences. I personally have yet to find one that is truly comfortable and stable. I've tried just flipping the razor and using the basic grip but I don't feel as confident when attempting the pass. I've checked the wiki and it shows three basic grips with a couple variants. So I'm just curious what some of the more seasoned SR shavers here use for their grips when it comes to the ATG and XTG passes.

I use what might be termed a 'standard' grip when shaving WTG and often XTG, however, I change to a 'kamisori' type grip (ie the scales in line eith the blade) for parts of my face going ATG and even a two handed grip for the 'fools pass' ie ATG on the top lip.
For this one I mostly keep the razor still and nod my head - if that makes sense.
Going ATG under my chin I use a 'reverse' standard grip, holding the tang between my thumb and the first knuckle of my index finger and the scales in the palm of my hand (the spine facing towards my chest and the blade uppermost).
I hope this helps, as it is a little difficult to describe sometimes.
Don't even ask how I stretch the skin....hehehehe
The important thing is that - if it doesn't feel comfortable and in control, don't touch the razor to your face.
Hang on and enjoy the ride

The only time I change my grip is when doing S_N on my neck. Then I just hold it like a Kamisori.
